Privacy Policy

NameBiscuit is a reference site for real pet-name popularity data. You can use almost all of it without giving us anything: there are no accounts, no sign-up, and no login. This page explains the few places where data is involved and what we do with it.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you, by default. Browsing names, breeds, lists, and rankings does not require you to submit any personal information, and we don't ask for any.

Analytics

To understand which pages are useful and where the site is slow, we use two privacy-conscious analytics tools, and only on the live site:

• Fathom Analytics — a privacy-first service that measures aggregate traffic without cookies and without building a profile of you across sites.
• Google Analytics 4 — measures aggregate usage (pages viewed, approximate location, device type) and may set cookies in your browser. It is operated by Google under its own privacy policy.

Both report on visitors as a group. We use them to improve the site, not to identify individuals. You can block analytics with most ad/tracker blockers or your browser's privacy settings without losing any functionality.

Saved names

When you save a name, that list is stored in your own browser (localStorage) and never sent to us. It stays on your device, isn't tied to any account, and clearing your browser data removes it. Your light/dark theme preference is stored the same way.

Feedback form

If you send us feedback, we receive the message you type and — only if you choose to add it — your email address. To help us reproduce bugs, the form also includes basic technical context about your session: the page URL you were on, your browser's user-agent string, language, time zone, and screen size. Your IP address is used momentarily to rate-limit spam and is not stored with your message.

We use this only to reply to you and to fix problems. Messages are delivered to our team through our feedback service (which posts to an internal channel and an email mirror). We don't use your feedback for advertising and we don't sell it.

Cookies and local storage

NameBiscuit itself sets no advertising cookies. Google Analytics may set its own cookies as described above. We use your browser's local storage only for the conveniences described above (saved names and theme) — not for tracking.

Third parties

The site is served through Cloudflare (hosting and network), and uses Fathom and Google Analytics for measurement. Each processes data under its own privacy policy. We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Children

NameBiscuit is a general-audience reference site and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
