Bronx is best known as the name of New York City's northernmost borough, itself named for Jonas Bronck, a Scandinavian settler whose farm sat along the river that came to be called "Bronck's River" in the 1600s. The word later lent its name to the Bronx cocktail, a gin-based drink mixed with vermouth and orange juice.
